How To Create A Fun And Trendy Basement
Did you just move into a house with a basement, or are you refinishing your current basement? If so, this is the blog post for you! I love basements because they add so much extra square footage to your house, but sometimes, they have the ability to just look outdated and dark. Instead of having the old-looking basement, use these tips to create a fun and trendy basement space in your home:
A “Theatre”
A theatre in your basement seems so typical, but so many people do not think about putting one in when they actually have a basement themselves. I’m not sure why, but it just does not cross their minds when they are trying to figure out what to do with their space. A theatre in your basement is a fun option to add and it can also be trendy, if you do it correctly. Add plush couches that recline with fluffy and trendy pillows. Search high and low for great throw blankets that look great and also add a luxurious, yet cozy feel to the room, and if possible, add in a gas fireplace below the movie screen, in order to step up the cozy game. Add fun details such as a popcorn machine, a coke dispenser (or a mini fridge will do the trick), and maybe a few movie posters, if you really want to stay within the theme. I suggest making this a separate room in your basement space, if possible, so that you can make the room completely dark when playing a movie (also great for napping, as well!).
Games
Another fun option is adding a few games in the main space of your basement. Don’t worry, though! Games can also look trendy and beautiful, too! For example, I love the look of a billiards table – especially if it is an antique table! How cool would that be?! If you are searching for a pool table (new or used), check out Absolute Billiard Services. They are a full-service billiard company focused on providing master-quality work matched with exceptional customer service. They sell, move, recover, assemble, disassemble, calibrate, and repair all makes and models of pool tables. They are known as Atlanta’s billiard company for and are the go-to for residential, commercial, moving, and all things related to billiard services. When looking for pool tables Atlanta, I highly recommend checking them out. They say, “With over 17 years of moves behind us, we’ve seen virtually every type of billiard table out there, so feel free to inquire about our experience servicing antique and custom pool tables. The owner takes pride in inspecting every table during each step of its reassembly, ensuring your pool table is properly calibrated for tournament-quality play. Operating from the North Georgia area, we regularly service all of Atlanta and into the areas of South Georgia, Macon/LaGrange, and Athens. All pool tables are tournament leveled with a machinist level (ABSOLUTELY the most accurate method, period.)”
Artwork
Sometimes, a basement can look very bland. A lot of people transform their unfinished basement into a finished space, but when you go to see it, there are just blank, white walls and an ugly ceiling. If you are going with this look, at least have the decency to add some artwork to spruce up the space a bit! This will add color to your walls and take it from bland to very trendy in no time.
Styled Bookshelves
Another great perk about a basement is having plenty of extra space, including storage space. While closed cabinets and closets are great for this, another great option for storage space is to have styled bookshelves in the basement. You could have the top of the bookshelf completely open for books and other small decor pieces and then the bottom could be closed off for other storage needs. I love the look of a styled bookshelf and it will add a bit of class to your basement without having to do much at all. Just make sure you do not want to pack your bookshelves full – a few pieces here and there goes a long way.
Empty Space
You want space to move around, so make sure you do not fill every nook and cranny of your basement, especially if you have kids or grandkids. This space will be perfect for running around, playing games, lounging around, playing with the dogs, and even having fun sleepovers (again, for kids or grandkids!).
Light Colors
Last up: add in light colors! Light colored furniture, bright artwork, light or sheer window coverings (if you have windows), and light decor options. The reason for this is because a lot of basements tend to be on the dark side. To make them more trendy, add in light pieces throughout instead of having to rely on sunlight.
